Family Strengthening

Stronger families mean a stronger Liberia. Through educational programming, familial bonds are strengthened and families are empowered to take care of their children. Every child deserves to experience the identity and love that can only be found in a family.

VSLA Groups

Savings Groups

One of the best ways to empower a vulnerable family is through Savings Groups. This holistic approach teaches valuable skills like financial literacy and budgeting, and participants are given the opportunity to start their own small business. Although an increase in household finances is critical to empowering a family, we believe that the most valuable lesson of a savings group is learning how to be in right relationship with God, self, others and the world around them.

Trauma Healing groups

Trauma healing groups are the foundation for our Family Strengthening Program. Adults participate in these groups that are facilitated through local churches using The American Bible Society’s “Healing the Wounds of Trauma” curriculum. This powerful tool uses both Scripture and mental health principles to assist group participants in addressing their spiritual and emotional wounds caused by trauma and loss.

Parenting Classes

Parenting Classes

When a child has been separated from their family for a period of time, their familial bond might be weakened or lost. In order for family reunifications to be successful, both the caregiver and the child need to relearn how to form positive and lasting attachments with one another. Our social workers host Attachment Theory (AT) training sessions to teach the importance of family bonding and how attachments can be re-formed amongst the family.
