Our story

Red Meets Green began as a dream. After living and working in Liberia for four years, it was apparent to Ashley that there were needs outside of the walls of orphanages. It took more than a year to figure out what RMG would look like, but God kept saying, “four walls and a roof.” So we found, completely renovated, and signed a three-year lease on a building. The Green House Community Center is what blossomed out of those four walls.

The Green House was used to provide educational and vocational opportunities, build relationships, and host trauma healing groups for women. The children in the community knew that when the gate was rolled open, there was a safe space for them to come, learn, and play. The Green House operated from 2014-2017, but then God grew a passion in Ashley for further empowering families.

RMG pivoted to working with children living in orphanages, trying to figure out how to best meet the needs of and empower the young adults who had already aged out of orphanages. Our mission is to reunify children living in institutions in Liberia while empowering families so they do not have to be separated from their children. We want parents to have the dignity of raising their children and to realize that they have been equipped with God-given talents and abilities to raise them well. We believe that once families are strengthened, Liberia’s society as a whole will be strengthened. We long to see families together and thriving, and we want families to experience a stronger Liberia.

Our Name

Many ask us about the meaning of our name. Liberia’s tumultuous past includes fourteen years of civil war, where an estimated 250,000 people lost their lives and another one million people were displaced as refugees. The red in our name represents Liberia’s past—war, death, bloodshed and loss. The green in our name represents Liberia’s future of new life, growth and hope. We believe that people will “meet green” as they grow, heal, and experience the transformative power of Christ.
